The Mid-Atlantic Futbol Alliance is a newly formed official US Club Soccer league, designed to provide an enhanced setting for those teams and clubs wanting more freedom with their playing opportunities. It is this freedom that attracts people to US Club Soccer, as many feel stifled by their local or state organization and the amount of administrative work and restrictions that are often commonplace.

Serving Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and some clubs out of northern Georgia, MAFA is a self-governing and self-determining league, as US Club places the authority in the hands of the league members to decide at which level the individual teams and clubs choose to participate. The goal is to have a unified desire to provide appropriate competition levels for all members, and for those members to decide at which level they would like to compete and how frequently they would like to be involved.

By establishing this league, teams and clubs will have the ability to contact, arrange and play against other league members – when they want, where they want and how they want. There are no travel permission obstacles: members may cross state lines back and forth, as often as they please, wherever the competition takes them. This freedom to seek out quality play in various settings and levels of talent allows the members to grow and develop as they see proper at their own pace, within their own timeframe.

The scheduling structure is adaptable and open for discussion. Whether it is more formal settings desired or simply more friendlies, it is all about providing what is best for the members and their teams, as it fits into their schedule. Oftentimes, members will arrange a larger friendly, perhaps involving a round-robin event with six or more teams. This way, a variety of competition is included – competition that members may not be getting with their other league play - and costs are minimal and manageable.

There is no league fee, as each team or club is responsible for the basic costs of referees, field usage fees and travel costs. Each member must be registered with US Club Soccer, which will therefore provide all medical and liability insurance necessary for all league teams, participants and administrators. Also, in being a US Club member, state, regional and national competitions are now open to play. Members are also able to sanction their own tournaments with no extra costs.

In essence, the Mid-Atlantic Futbol Alliance places the emphasis on its members to create what they see fit, to provide the appropriate level of play while keeping costs and administrative issues minimal. Having a national organization behind the scenes allows the league to refer to a host of contacts and opportunities, all in the name of doing what is best for the players of the league teams and clubs. By joining the league, horizons are expanded, experiences are rewarded and lasting friendships are created.
